Banana Nut Bread is a classic recipe. This recipe is my Grandma Dorman's recipe and has been handed down through several generations. It is moist and flavorful and wonderfully delicious.
Ingredients
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
5 very ripe (but not rotten) bananas, mashed
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
1 c. applesauce
4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Directions
- Cream shortening and add sugar a little at a time.
- Add eggs
- Add mashed bananas, nuts, and applesauce
- Combine sifted dry ingredients and add a little at a time to the wet ingredients and mix well.
- Pour batter into 2 greased bread pans.
- Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean in the center of your loaves.
